Eyebright is a well-known component of eye creams. For decades it has been reigning on the market not only as a cosmetic but also as a pharmaceutical, providing care to the delicate skin around the eyes. Or just the eyes? What other cosmetic properties does this tiny plant with white flowers have?

Eyebright – characteristics 

Eyebrights can be found in cosmetics named INCI: Euphrasia officinale. It has been known since the Middle Ages – it was then used to care for the eye area and treat mild diseases. The infusions made with it, brought relief to tired, irritated eyelids. Regularly used eyebright is able to heal conjunctivitis, fights dry eye, barley, hay fever and can stave off tiredness and dry eyes. It turned out that it perfectly soothes all inflammation, illuminates the skin, fights dark circles under the eyes, has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.

Eyebright in cosmetology 

It is still an irreplaceable and respected component of eye and face creams. Its nurturing properties are very strong and highly desirable, and in addition, it is uncomplicated in cultivation and therefore, it is inexpensive.

Eyebright is gentle, it does not cause allergies, does not have comedogenic properties, and perfectly cares for all skin types. It is not only pressed into creams or under-eye gels, but also comes in the form of small capsules and combined with natural oils. Its presence in colored cosmetics means that they gain nourishing properties and do not irritate the skin. It is sometimes a component of the best eyelash serums – providing care and protection of the delicate skin. Eyebright soothes puffiness around the eyes, and its presence in face creams makes the face gaining freshness, hydration, protection and shine. Also, it perfectly tones the skin.

Moreover, eyebright contains a very large amount of tannins – substances with anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, which is why cosmetics companies issue the whole series of cosmetics based on the priceless action of the eyebright.

Cosmetics with the contents of a medical eyebright soothe irritations and also support the skin in anti-wrinkle prophylaxis. They smooth and improve the condition of the skin by removing traces of fatigue. Another unique feature of the eyebright is that it reduces the stasis of the lymph, i.e. it fights all swelling on the face. Also, it has a strong antioxidant effect.

The last but equally important feature of the plant is that it fits perfectly with almost all substances, which is why the infusion of a eyebright can be used as a hydrolate for hair and skin, combining it with, for example, natural oils, clays, aloe, and other herbal infusions.
