It seems to be a child’s play…

… but, living a busy life, do we cleanse the face skin the right way? Most women just wipe the skin with some micellar water to take makeup off and taps a cream on… that’s the end of the skin routine. What should face cleansing look like? Why is it so important? Check how to provide the skin with the best care.

Why does face cleansing matter so much?

Cleanness is the key to the healthy and flawless skin. Every day, it is exposed to air pollution, dust and dirt. The excess of sebum, which settles on its surface, is detrimental, too. All these nasties clog skin pores and prevent the skin from functioning properly. We transfer bacteria and germs with our hands – during the day, we often (even unconsciously) touch our faces. Dry air, AC, dust and car fumes damage the skin hugely as well.

To keep the skin in shape, to simply ‘let it work’ and to make sure that the processes (inside the skin and on its surface) run smoothly – you must support and properly purify it. Otherwise, your facial skin will be dull, fatigued, with blemishes, blackheads and clogged pores. With such a poor condition, the appearance of first wrinkles is the matter of time.

Step by step face skin cleansing

1. Makeup removal

Micellar water works best for this task. It is an innovative product which doesn’t just remove cosmetic build-up – it also picks up on all impurities and toxins gathering throughout the day. At the same time, it provides the skin with nutrients.

The micellar water should go along with the skin types – one remover works for young, oily or acne skin. A different one works for the mature and vascular skin. Ideally, the remover is mostly made up of natural ingredients which nourish the skin without irritating it.

You use it just like a toner: soak a cotton pad in the remover and precisely wipe the skin. Repeat until you see that a cotton pad is clean – it means you got rid of all makeup products. Remember not to rub the skin harshly while taking makeup off, especially the fragile around-eye skin.

2. Cleansing (Washing) the face

Makeup-free skin is primed for next cleansing steps. Wash it with a proper mousse or gel. Being free of soap (its basic pH doesn’t go with the skin pH) is the key feature you should pay attention to. If your skin is dry – instead of gels or mousses – use a face cleansing milk which delivers better moisture and soothing. The lipid balance won’t be disturbed.

3. Exfoliation (twice a week)

Skin exfoliation isn’t an activity you should do every day. Nevertheless, it is very important in the process of skin cleansing. Thanks to the exfoliation routine, the skin is stimulated to work, it is bouncier and functions smoothly. How so? An exfoliator doesn’t just cleanse the skin. It improves the blood flow and stimulates cells to work, too. Thanks to regularly-done exfoliation, the skin has several times better ability to purify. A face scrub gives smoothness and helps to get rid of needless, old skin cells. The absorption of facial creams is much better.

If you have combination or oily skin, you can exfoliate it twice a week. On the other hand, those with dry, sensitive and vascular skin – can do it once a week. For the sensitive ones, an enzyme scrub is the best choice because it doesn’t require rubbing motions and doesn’t irritate the skin.

4. Face mask (twice a week)

After an exfoliation, the skin is perfectly clean and has the best ability to absorb ingredients so it’s a perfect time for applying a facial mask – its action will be more intensive so the skin will get the maximum benefits. Match a mask to your skin type and needs. The best ones include natural clay that you can mix with hydrosol, rose water, aloe vera gel or natural oils.

5. Toners

Lots of people give up on a face toner, thinking it’s an outdated and unnecessary face skin product which loses the battle with an innovative and versatile micellar water. Surprisingly, nothing is going to keep the skin pH balanced better than the right facial toner. Apart from ensuring the proper pH, it gives a matte finish or a touch of glow (if the skin is dry), freshens the skin up and closes skin pores. Finest-quality toners are infused with vitamins and skin-friendly substances.

6. A cream which is right for the skin type

Once your skin is clean, feel free to apply a face cream. Doing so, you are sure that all essential ingredients are absorbed. A cosmetic works better when it’s not mixed with toxins and sebum.

A cream should be as natural as possible, abounding in active substances going with the skin type. You can replace a night cream with a natural oil – it works like a concentrated face serum.
