Sea, Himalayan and Epsom salts are famous for their cosmetic properties. They not only cleanse the skin but also soothe irritations. Salt is easily available, which is why homemade salt scrub is quick and cheap, and at the same time, an effective alternative. How to prepare a salt scrub yourself and how does it work?
Salt – properties
Sea salt, Epsom salt and magnesium sulfate are widely used in cosmetics because they contain minerals that have a beneficial effect on the skin:
- Epsom salt is rich in magnesium which it reduces inflammation of the skin and abounds in sulphates, which help get rid of toxins.
- Sea salt arises from the evaporation of seawater and is famous for its pro-health qualities. It is used for baths and for soothing the skin. The salt has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Its regular use can reduce the skin inflammation and reduce the pain and itching associated with bacterial skin disease. Sea salt mixed with olive oil, almond oil or rose oil can significantly refresh the skin.
How does a salt scrub work?
The salt scrub has a much better effect on the skin than the salt itself because it owes its effect to the properties of salt and the abrasive effect of a peeling. The scrub cleanses the skin, improves blood circulation and helps to unclog pores. Gently rubbing the skin with salt in circular motions facilitates getting rid of dead skin cells. In turn, when the skin is not subjected to regular exfoliation, the dead cells are deposited and consequently form a hard shell. The immediate effect of the scrub is visible through the smooth, soft and pink skin. Think about it especially when you see ingrowing hair, hardening of the skin or constant goosebumps.
Salt scrub – effects
Salt scrub removes dead skin cells and, as a result, smoothes out the surface of the skin, supports the regeneration of the epidermis and stimulates blood circulation. In addition, regular exfoliation of the skin stimulates the production of new cells. An additional advantage of the salt scrub is the fact that it eliminates discolouration and evens out the skin tone, which becomes smooth and firm.
