At first, when we think of removing makeup with oil, we might be a bit surprised. However, after a moment of reflection – this method (abbreviated to OCM – Oil Cleansing Method) makes sense – nothing dissolves greasy make-up products better than other oils. Milk makeup remover and dual-phase makeup removers also work on the same principle. OCM uses natural oils to cleanse the face, which additionally strongly nourishes and regenerates the skin. What effect can OCM have on the complexion and how to do it properly?
What exactly is OCM?
Oil Cleansing Method is a method of face makeup removal, which not only precisely removes all oil-based cosmetics, but also perfectly nourishes the skin. Natural oils are gentle on the skin, do not irritate it like other chemical or synthetic cosmeceuticals, and in addition, contain a number of essential ingredients: vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids (EFAs), plant sterols, flavonoids, squalene, UV filter.
Natural oils not only provide the skin with a number of essential ingredients but also balance the level of sebum without disrupting its natural lipid coat, do not irritate and adapt to the type of skin. Thanks to the oils, we provide the skin with the highest level of care while thoroughly taking off the rest of the makeup. Pure skin that gets the best quality nutrients is the foundation of care.
OCM – makeup removal with oils – which oils to choose?
In order to cleanse the face with the OCM method, you can use one oil or a blend of properly-selected oils. However, it is worth remembering what oils are recommended for a particular type of complexion and which ones will ‘co-operate’ with sebum. What are the best oils for makeup removal?
- Coconut oil – it’s the undisputed king of OCM, fits all skin types, perfectly dissolves makeup and is suitable for any complexion – from acne to oily or combination to dry, ideal for both teen and mature skin. It has the power of vitamins and fatty acid, which has antibacterial properties, providing the skin with cleansing and detox.
- Passion fruit oil – perfect for mature or capillary skin. It has a large amount of vitamin K, which seals the walls of the blood vessels and prevents the formation of spider veins on the face. The high concentration of vitamin C and E makes the oil care for mature skin; brightens it and removes discoloration – including pigmentation spots. Also, it takes care of the right level of skin hydration while making fine lines less visible.
- Argan oil – it’s already an iconic cosmetic for face, body and hair care. Argan strongly rejuvenates and is a light oil that does not have a comedogenic effect. It absorbs well and works well with any type of skin, protecting it from irritation. Argan oil is able to smooth out the first fine lines.
- Jojoba oil – is a “magical” oil that – when it is on the skin is able to recognize its type: that’s why it regulates the level of sebum on oily skin and at the same time it complements its deficiency in the case of dry skin. It improves flaccid skin, tightens it and strengthens elasticity. How is all that possible? It owes its valuable properties to the presence of squalene – it is a naturally occurring component in human sebum.
- Sweet almond oil – ideal for sensitive and atopic skin. It soothes irritations, creates a microscopic, occlusive layer on the surface that protects the skin against the adverse effects of external factors. It smells beautiful and is perfectly absorbed.
Makeup removal with oils – how to OCM the right way? Step by Step Handbook
- Wet your face with lukewarm water (makes sure it’s not too warm).
- Apply a little oil and rub it in your hands.
- Apply the oil onto the face and give yourself a gentle face massage – just like washing the skin with a face wash gel. The oil is also suitable for eye makeup removal, so you can rub the eyelids gently – eyes must be closed all the time so that the oil does not get into the cornea.
- A special, muslin cloth is needed for OCM (you can buy it at any drugstore). Soak the cloth in lukewarm water and apply it to your face for a moment, then use the same damp cloth to gently wipe the oil from your face.
- Repeat the step with applying the oil again, or – if you use a lot of makeup cosmetics – even twice.
- Finally, rinse your face with cool water and wash the cloth thoroughly with a mild washing liquid or hypoallergenic washing gel and allow it to air-dry.
